ATADO The Far Eastern Club

The Far Eastern Club

The club trains at the South Oxford Community Centre, Lake Street , Oxford , using a room with a permanently padded floor. We have secure lockup parking.

Learning:

Though training discipline is important for safety, there is no overly regimental approach to learning and no one is expected to perform beyond their capabilities. Our style can be adapted to suit any size or age (over 16 yrs), and male and female students train together and grade together to ensure a realistic application of techniques. There is no reliance on strength or body size. You will get fitter whilst developing a practical and useful skill through training. You will learn defences to and escapes from aggressive holds, strikes, kicks, and attacks with a variety of weapons. You will also be taught how to restrain and disarm an attacker. Examples include resisting someone who grabs you anywhere on the body, how to avoid and repel attacks, counter striking, disarming weapons and controlling people, whether standing or on the floor. Brazilian style groundwork is also incorporated. You will learn to throw people and be thrown, train with more advanced weapons, and practice useful forms or katas, e.g. Tar Fong Khuen Moh Chow and Tai Chi Chuan to improve breathing and balance.

Remember: If you want to keep fit you go to a Gym.
With Martial Arts, you get fit plus you come away with a practical skill!

Costs

Instructors are not paid as they enjoy what they do, hence the low cost of joining us. The fees are £3.00 per 2 hour training session (8-10pm) and £20 for combined registration / licence / insurance (£15 for students); £10 for annual renewal. Beginners train on Wednesdays and can progress to Fridays, and when orange belt is achieved, Mondays also (senior's night).

Uniform:

You can start by wearing a T-shirt and comfortable trousers. You will be expected to acquire only white martial arts trousers after a few weeks. You will be supplied with free belts. A black T-shirt embossed with Tiger style club logo may be purchased on completing your first formal grading. Grading commences with an informal Red Tab after some weeks of competence. Gradings then follow through successive colour belts.
